Hello I’m Derek Smith, I grew up in Northeast Tennessee, and by the time I was about ten years old, I already knew photography wasn’t just a hobby—it was the path I wanted to build my life around. That passion carried me from being a annual staff photographer to earning my B.A. in Photography, and eventually to chasing my other calling: warmer weather and new inspiration in Florida.
Today, I’m a self-employed professional photographer based in the Sunshine State. Photography is what I do for a living—but it’s also how I create art. Every time I look through the lens, I’m not just capturing a moment; I’m shaping a story, a mood, and a point of view.
